What were the Major global trends in 2025…?

Part one

The year 2025 was a year that definitely had different impacts on the different parts of the world. As usual, that is the nature of the world. The year has been a year of progress and successes for some people; it was a year of failures and setbacks for others, and so on.

For many in the conflict zones and countries, it was a disaster, and they were in trenches confronting their opponents, trying to defend or waging a war to counter attacks and subdue their enemies.

For business people, it was generally a difficult year, as the global conflict inflation rate has reached its apex, making it difficult to make the usually high enough profits. As a result of such major global wars and inflations, many giant global companies have closed their businesses.

The Russia-Ukraine war

The Russia-Ukraine war has intensified in 2025, while global peace efforts have stalled, leading to more casualties and destruction of towns in both countries. As Russia pushes for a final victory against the Ukrainians, Ukraine Army also tried to strength its defence capabilities, targeting inside Russia’s capital Moscow. Russia uses Iran supplied missiles while Ukraine depends on the united States and Europe for defence equipment and finances.

The United States of America and its allies led several attempts to finalise a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, but none of these efforts bore fruit and were all stalled. The year 2025 will be remembered for global world order disruption as global superpowers flex their muscles in one way or another. Russia was fighting Ukraine, and China regularly flew observation and spy fighter jets in a show of force and readiness to take Taiwan back to its territory by any means, even by the use of military might.

The United States has tried making several moves in a show of global dominance, claiming Greenland and other territories, and almost went to war with its neighbour Venezuela. The United States of America targeted the highest number of boats that were suspected to have carried drugs.

Apart from the Russia-Ukraine war, there were other major escalations, like the Iran-Israel war of 12 days, which was later on resolved by the United States under the Trump administration. and the India-Pakistan confrontation, this was a very dangerous move, as both of the two powers are armed with nuclear warheads.

What can be remembered in Somalia for 2025?

This year, 2025, the Somali government held the first municipal election at Banadir and surroundings without any insecurity and explosions, which shows hope despite the fact that the election process was criticised by oppositions who considered it an irrelevant and immature trial to blindfold the international community and stakeholders, using it as a justification for the Federal Government’s scapegoat.

The Israeli recognition of the breakaway Somaliland.

The recognition of Somaliland by Israel is seen as a major setback to talks between the Federal Government of Somalia and the self-declared state of Somaliland. Somaliland has over the years been advocating for recognition from the international community, which remained to be a mirage over the horizon but has eventually garnered some results since Israel started its new moves to recognise part of Somalia as a sovereign nation. The Somali president is currently facing this new issue as he struggles to maintain a united Somalia, eyeing Turkey, the UK, the United States, and the United Nations as the main stakeholders that he can seek support from.

What are the benefits and challenges of the new Somaliland move?

Somaliland has been looking for an opportunity to get the attention and the consideration of the international community. The administration sees this as a milestone in terms of Somaliland’s progress, hoping other nations will join in recognising Somaliland. As the celebration rocks in the main cities of Somaliland, the hidden challenges are not a joke either. All extremist groups and Houthi rebels in  Yemen are around the corner waiting for an opportunity to take advantage of the circumstances and the current crisis.

The way forward for the Horn of Africa.

The Horn of Africa is a very strategic place for global geopolitics, as it borders the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Gulf of Aden, connecting Africa and Asia. Any international conflict in the Horn of Africa may be disastrous as the proxies from the international superpowers and economic competition increase.

Is the United Nations becoming another League of Nations?

The United Nations has become weaker for the last 20 years. This is because certain powers use it to their advantage, which makes this international body weaker. Secondly, the UN has failed to take a role in solving the Middle East crisis and some African crises, like that of Congo and Somalia, while it has also failed to prevent certain world superpowers from attacking other nations and taking part of their territories. The Somali Federal Government isn’t happy with the move, as it calls it illegal, unacceptable and not inline with the international law. Somaliland people were seen celebrating the first recognition from Israel, calling it a historical move for the president Cirro’s administration.

What is the Abraham Accord?

The Abraham Accord was a series of trials and initiatives that was led by the United States for several years, which eventually yielded some positive results in the year 2020 after several countries partially accepted to take part in these initiatives. This initiative is more lineage-based than other fundamental beliefs and hence was aimed at global peace and coexistence among the people of the world. Some of the countries that normalised ties with Israel include Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Sudan and Kazakhstan. These Trump-brokered initiatives aimed at global peace, coexistence, and shared or mutual benefits for all the nations involved.

The year 2025 will be remembered for Trump’s Somali insults and mass arrests in the US after there had been allegations against the Somali community about fraud and mismanagement of taxpayers’ money, allegations that Somalis refused to accept. Somalis are generally a very active community when it comes to entrepreneurship, which makes them an outstanding society everywhere they go.

Every talent comes with its challenges; therefore, Somalis become on the global news headlines not because they are bad people but because they outshine many other endogenous groups. Somalis are naturally talented business people who don’t miss any opportunity when it comes to making profit. They easily set up businesses even after fleeing their homeland due to civil unrest and tribal warlord factions destabilisation of Somalia in the past decades.

For the United States, recent corruption scandals against Somalis aren’t legitimate due to the fact that the amount of money missing is far more than the mentioned 350 million US dollars, so one asks where the rest of the money disappeared to. The aim of this article isn’t to blindly defend a specific society but to shed light on some hidden facts that need to be uncovered. even though the focus on Somali society is real by the current US administration, yet they aren’t the first community to be targted in the US in the history of america, there had been other communities that were targeted, isolated and banned from entering the US by some previous administrations.
