Garissa people have started a struggle to push for fire preparedness as they grief effect of the last fire incident.
Garissa town has experienced several traumatic fire incidents over the years, mainly in the area of small scales business people call “Suq mugdi” where many mothers and low-income people get their daily earning to sustain their lives and support their loved ones.
One of the best ways to prevent future fire breaking out at Suq mugdi is to give financial support to the mothers and low income people who lost everything in the fire and establishing durable market for them to continue with their businesses even though is just a short term solution. A long term solution could be creation of wider roads to create space and construct normal buildings in the area avoiding huts and other village like structures.
Properly securing the area during the night and putting up all the necessary fire precautions is very crucial for saving the lives and money of the Garissa people who have had several incidents of fire outbreaks that left many families poor. Setting up a fire brigade may also be important as this will immediately take out in the case there si another fire break out in the future. Other towns like the Capital of the Somali Regional State of Jigjiga can also learn a lesson from their past incidents and can do some precautions to avoid such fire scenario.
